In 2013, Moore Management became part of First Names Group, a leading independent provider of trust, fund, real estate and corporate services operating in strategic locations worldwide. The Group’s entire fund administration offering now operates under the Moore brand.
First Names Group has a firm foothold in Asia, with offices in Hong Kong and Singapore in addition to Moore’s presence in Japan. Given its high growth potential, Asia is a major focus area for the business as a whole, both now and as we look forward to 2017 – and we certainly have a lot going on in the region! Below is a round-up of recent news and activity from throughout the Group’s Asia operations.
Last month, Moore Funds Director Andrew Maiden attended the 29th Annual AVCJ Private Equity & Venture Forum in Hong Kong, as part of a delegation from Guernsey Finance. The Forum is the largest and most influential gathering of PE/VC professionals in Asia, including KKR, VCV Bain Capital, BC Partners and Future Fund (Australia). Panel discussions included some insightful topics surrounding the general PE market and future areas of growth.
During the Forum, Andrew met with a host of managers, GPs, LPs and professional service providers involved with both inward and outward investment to/from Asia, with many discussions centring around the opportunities in China for investing and raising capital, in addition to the huge pools of capital that are expected to start being invested from some of the large Japanese pension funds in alternative asset classes. He was also able to provide thought leadership on using offshore jurisdictions.
Also last month, three members of First Names Group’s multi-jurisdictional Private Client team attended the 2016 STEP Asia Conference in Hong Kong, Consisting of two full days of exceptional speakers, specialist breakout sessions and panel discussions, the sell-out event attracted some of the most prominent trust professionals and trust-related intermediaries from across the globe.
A range of hot topics were highlighted and discussed throughout the conference, including the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and its impact, in particular for the second adopter countries – specifically in Asia.
Representing the Group’s Singapore, Hong Kong and Guernsey offices respectively, directors Karen O’Hanlon, James Russell and Stuart Dowding were among the 500+ delegates present. Should you wish to speak to someone regarding the trust and corporate administration services that First Names Group provides from its Hong Kong and Singapore offices, please do not hesitate to contact either Karen or James directly, or you can visit www.firstnames.com for more information.
Further news relates to the exciting appointment of Jean-Francois Minier as Head of Corporate Development, North East Asia, for First Names Group. Jean-Francois previously held the position of Head of Asia for Moore Management, however following the recent expansion of the Group’s Asia presence, Jean-Francois has moved into this new non-executive position. The role will see him carry out a number of duties for the benefit of the two brands, primarily seeking and developing new business opportunities as we continue our expansion in the region.
In addition, Yuji Sugiura has moved into the role of Non-Executive Chairman for Moore Japan. Yuji will continue to support the business going forward in a non-executive capacity, working to explore market opportunities in Japan.
Following Director Andrew Pittom and Manager Joel Speight’s relocation from Jersey to our Tokyo office earlier this year, we have been able to provide additional technical support to our clients over the last six months. We are delighted to confirm that Andrew and Joel are now set to be based in Japan for the foreseeable future.
